Is trekking in Nepal safe after the earthquake?

The short answer is YES and in many ways there has never been a better time.

Here's the long answer (which is still yes)...

The earthquake in April 2015 was a tragedy from which many Nepali people are still struggling to recover from. That being said, spirits are high in the country and there is a palpable sense of optimism for the future.

Earthquakes are notoriously impossible to predict and so we won't attempt to do so - we could never say if or when an earthquake might occur anywhere in the world. What we can say for certain though, is that there is no remaining danger on any of the trails that Elite Trekkers use as a direct result of the 2015 earthquake.

There is of course damage from the disaster visible on many trekking routes. Damaged houses and villages remain dotted around the landscape (of course, going playing inside a half collapsed house -will- be dangerous) and we've made small diversions on some of our routes to ensure they remain safe. With trekking in Nepal providing the only income for thousands of families, most of the popular trekking routes in the Khumbu region and Annapurna region were cleared and made safe within just a few days or weeks, with the rest of the common trails being cleared since.

Some of the most lasting damage from the earthquake is that which is etched into the memories of the Nepali guides, porters and villagers, many of whom lost more than we can imagine in the April 2015 earthquake and while buildings can be reconstructed, other things can't. It is for the sake of these people, having suffered so much already, having lost work from the ensuing loss of tourists and now burdened with the costs of rebuilding, that we would encourage anyone considering it to come to Nepal to trek sooner rather than later.

Trekking in Nepal is not only the experience of a life time, but right now it might be enough to help turn lives around.
